Professional Notes on the “Good Life”

The holidays aren’t necessarily my favorite time of year; however, they do provide me the opportunity to be around family, friends and my own thoughts on the things I’ve learned (*ahem*) with age, that never let my cup get half empty.

1. always assume the best (and best intentions) in others

– starting by providing the “benefit of the doubt” to others is HUGE
– find what goal you share in common – ignore the rest – and work towards it

2. spend the majority of your time on the things that will make the biggest difference

– never confuse activity for accomplishment

3. quit taking the opinions of people you don’t respect so seriously

– spend your time with those you admire, trust and demonstrate behaviors you respect
– quick clue: people who lack the ability to trust, shouldn’t be trusted…

4. stop talking (and talking ABOUT)

– there are plenty of people who can identify problems and spout ideas…
– be someone who can identify solutions and participate in the hard work

5. let go of “credit” – thank others – be modest

– sharing ideas, responsibility and knowledge is a true talent
– the ACCOMPLISHMENT is more important than WHO accomplished it

6. be transparent

– if you have an “agenda,” share it
– if you have an opinion, share it
– debate is healthy, masking intentions is not

OK. So that’s a simple list, but professionally, tough work. Too much time is spent in offices around America on negative chatter, self-promotion and passive-aggressive behaviors that should leave the average person ashamed when he/she lays down at night.

Drama is gross.
Insecurity is a disease.
People who need support for their opinions are weenies.

Be your best somebody.
Talk to God.
Share your love.
Laugh.
Connect to how you make a difference.
Leave the rest behind.
Conquer the world.

Happy New Year.

Regarding: Professional Notes on the “Good Life”

By far one of the most inspiring blog posts ever. This SHOULD be a way of life for everyone working in the professional world and in my personal opinion, this should be a given on any day “at the office” or better yet, in life.
We should all Be more Random about life and of course, worry less 🙂
Thanks for giving me a great start to my 2011!
